Job Description
The company: Appreciating Payroll has partnered exclusively with a high-achieving private education provider based on Sydney's lower North Shore. As part of a global family, Sydney employs circa 400 - 500 staff, covering both permanent & casual staff working across several campuses. Operating with growth in mind, a newly created position for a standalone Payroll Manager is now available.
The role: Reporting into a very supportive, yet hands-off HR Manager, as Payroll Manager, your role will comprise two main components: BAU & Process improvements.
B.A.U. Payroll Management:• Process fortnightly and monthly payrolls for permanent, fixed-term, and casual staff across multiple campuses.
• Manage third-party payments, including superannuation, payroll tax, and statutory deductions.
• Maintain detailed employee records, covering new hires, terminations, and status changes.
Awards & Enterprise Agreements (EAs):• Accurately interpret and apply 2 Awards and EAs, ensuring correct pay calculations and compliance.
• Provide advice and guidance to internal teams on Award and EA provisions, identifying potential risks or areas for improvement.
Compliance & Reporting:• Ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation, including taxation, superannuation, and reporting obligations.
• Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure adherence to legislation, Awards, and EAs.
• Prepare payroll journals, reconciliations, and reports, delivering accurate data to the Finance team.
• Develop and maintain internal controls to minimise risks associated with payroll activities.
Systems & Technology:• Own the payroll system, working with IT and the vendor to ensure optimal functionality and compliance.
• Address system issues promptly and propose enhancements to improve performance.
• Maintain seamless integration of payroll data with HRIS and financial systems.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:• Act as the primary contact for payroll-related enquiries, managing the payroll inbox and providing clear, timely communication to all stakeholders.
• Work closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure smooth data flow and accurate reporting.
• Collaborate with the New Zealand Payroll Manager to provide support and backup when needed.
Projects:Process Improvement:• Identify gaps or inefficiencies in current payroll processes, implement effective and scalable solutions.
• Standardise payroll procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and operational efficiency. Also influence stakeholders & department Heads to adopt and share improved Payroll processes and technology wherever possible.
As the company grows, so will the payroll function - you could well be managing a direct report within the next few years!
The candidate: We are looking for an experienced Payroll professional, ideally with previous standalone or true end-to-end payroll skills, who is happy running a Payroll whilst also adding value through various procedural improvements. It is important you possess exceptional communication skills, along with strong stakeholder management skills & experience.
